Now I Can Dream Of A Greenhouse!!!!!!!

Hello Sweet Ladies,

This morning I made up one of our favorite recipes from way back when I had our boys. It was from the La Leche League, Mother's in the Kitchen Cookbook. Easy and you can add any fruit you would like to the batter. It lasts in the fridge for six-weeks. We added fresh chopped up strawberries to our first batch of muffins this morning. They are so so num!

Six-Weeks Muffins
6 c. bran
2 c. boiling water
1 c. shortening, melted  (I used butter)
3 c. sugar or less (I used raw sugar)
4 eggs, beaten
1 quart buttermilk
5 c. flour
5 tea. soda
2 tea. salt
Pour the boiling water over 2 c. of bran and let stand while assembling other ingredients. Mix in shortening. Mix rest of bran with sugar, eggs and buttermilk. Sift flour with soda and salt. Combine all ingredients and bake as needed, at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
Misture will keep six weeks or more in the refrigerator. Makes 6 dozen.
You can add fresh cut strawberries, peaches, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, raisins or chopped apple at baking time. After the batch is made, all you do is ladle the batter into muffin tins and add fruit to muffin cup.

Yesterday the V and Ian started working on the old coop again.....they came in the house and said that they had a surprise......

Later in the day Ellie and I joined the boys and we all started working on the coop. We had so much fun working along side each other. The kids were excited about some of their finds. The neatest for me was the blue door. I think it is beautiful.

We also found an old grain keeper. I think this is what it is anyway. I have it on it's side in the pic. Most think I like the color red........and I do, but this color blue is my next favorite. We are not sure what we will do with this piece......it needs some work, but I think it will be fun trying to figure it out.

Yesterday on facebook I had the question, what did ladies think the door (the one we found above) could be used for........I got some really neat ideas from the ladies.
I found this idea this morning........beautiful! I think I would like!!!!!

We are moving all the boards and tree limbs to the burn pile. They are the sweetest little helpers! No complaining.......lots of God Chatter......and lots of laughter.

Found an old feeder.......we will use it again.

When we started it looked like this..........

before evening it looked like this........

today it started to look like this........three walls are down......not much more work to finish up.

The burn pile is getting high......we will save for the boys to burn themselves.......they will like that......maybe a hotdog roast and marshmallows?

Now to start dreaming about my greenhouse......I haven't looked at any yet on the internet, but I will be starting to.  If you have any places for me to look, would you mind sharing where??????

Hope your day is going well. My grandkids are gone now and the house is quiet........I will miss them!

Hugs to your day,
Linda

  1. Hi Linda~do you happen to have any of those metal round corn cribs around? That is what we made my greenhouse out of and it is awesome. I can send you pics of it if you would like. Hubby just cut one side of the corn crib open and then set it on it's side. Now it is the shape of a greenhouse. We added doors on each end, and covered with two layers of greenhouse plastic and "voila"...a greenhouse!!! Let me know if you'd like the pix for ideas. wcgs@nntc.net

  2. Fun to see the kids helping take stuff to the burn pile. We have one of those too, and it's so big now that we're a little afraid to burn it. We will probably wait until winter when everything is covered in snow. I like that photo of the rocker and door in that little special alcove. That's a great idea!

    1. Hey Cranberry!
It is fun to watch them work. They are so funny together. We have had such high winds....we will have to wait also.

  3. I am so excited for you, Linda, that you will have a greenhouse! I have a little one and love working in there in the early spring. (I have used it for raising some little chickens, too!) You can really get a jump on growing seeds for the garden.
Oh! Your idea for the door you salvaged is just too sweet! I have seen something similar. A little garden shed made with four old doors (and a roof built on).
So many creative people and ideas out there. Can hardly wait to see what you come up with!
    Blessings!
Oh ~ I have a very similar recipe for 6 week bran muffins. I shared it a long time ago on my Pantry blog! Great minds think alike! ;~P

  5. I just read about this blogger ( http://www.harvesthymehomestead.com/ ) getting her new greenhouse up and running. It is made by an Amish man, but she didn't talk about the details in her blog post. But if it's something you're interested in, I'm sure you could contact her and ask. Hers looks expensive though! I would love a greenhouse someday! Being a renter, we can't do that.

    1. I went over Jessica, thank you for sending me over there. Neat ideas also of what to do on the inside. Thank you so much for showing me!
I wish you could have your own greenhouse someday. Looks like the one she had you can move. The gravel on the ground looks like the deal!

  6. What busy-bee workers you have! I have a few old architectural pieces I'd like to recycle into something... I'm just waiting for my husband to have time. He's a carpenter so it'll be easier with his help. Congratulations on getting nearer to your greenhouse! :)

  8. Linda, love the pics! Gkids are so precious and such a blessing to us!
I am going to try the muffin recipe next week when 2 of my gdaughters are here for a couple days. We put on our Farmgirl aprons and some felt cowboy hats and my older gdaughter calls us the 'cooking cowgirls', lol! It's so fun to make even the simplest of memories with them!
I love, love what you did with the doors! Such a calm and pretty spot! Enjoy!

  9. I won a little greenhouse on a blog giveaway a few years ago! Darn high winds tore the cover to shreds and I was sad but I still use it to hold some potted plants down! Oh how I would love a real green house Good luck finding yours. Love and Hugs to you!
