Let's Get To Know Each Other!

Just picked up my Hobby Farm HOME...........the other day at the Tractor Supply Store! Sure gets me "itchin" to have spring ...............now! Smile. I will wait and be patient.........it just will be so nice to get outside again and dig in the dirt.

Hello sweet ladies,

Today we didn't have any problems getting to work this morning.......so I didn't have a SNOW Day. Sad! It is so cold here though. Having a hard time keeping the shower thawed. UGH for my honey!

I am getting a little sewing in today........very relaxing......... finishing up on an order.

I can't believe how many new ladies are downloading the tea cozy. I love it! I hope a lot are being made for gifts. If you are doing so........ I would love to hear.

I thought I would do a little something different with this post. I would love to get to know you just a little bit better. So here goes. I have 5 simple questions for you to answer. If you don't want to...... that is just fine. I want you to be comfortable when you come to my blog. The questions will be simple. I was just thinking that if you came to my HOME to visit I would want to get to know YOU! So here goes.........

1. Would you rather be knitting, crocheting, hand stitching doing embroidery, sewing using your sewing machine or all of the above?

2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now?

3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food?

4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds?

5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could?

Okay.........here goes! I will answer the questions for you.

1. I love anything that has to do with sewing. EVERYTHING!

2. I am working on a new pattern right now. It will be a new organizer of sorts. Can't wait to finish it!

3. I really enjoy cooking from scratch.

4. Yes, I will have a garden......tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes, every color and kind of peppers, onions, garlic, chard, carrots, radishes, green beans, rhubarb broccoli and sweet potatoes. We will freeze or can the produce.

5. As you know my family lives on a farm. I am so grateful to the Lord that He has allowed it.

If you want to number from 1-5 on the comment and answer....... that is fine or you can copy and paste the questions. If you have any other information that you would like to share about yourself.......that would be wonderful! All we need is a cup of tea and meet in real life! What a precious thought!

Hugs from my farm to your HOME and may the Lord bless your day!

Linda

P.S. It might be fun for those who comment to go over to the other ladies blogs who have also commented. Then we would be a bigger blogger family!

Oh, I wish I was a good enough knitter to say all the above....how about, most of the above although hand stitching -- quilting and embroidery is my favorite -- quiet work :)

    2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now?

Aprons and dishtowels (as well as homemade soap) that will stock my etsy store to help fund a missions trip for youngest daughter. Keeping really busy with that!

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food?

Scratch -- don't use many prepared foods.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds?

Veggies & flowers -- lots of them ;)

    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could?
Faithfulness Farm is a small acreage on the edge of a small city in the middle of nowhere :)

I would rather be crocheting or doing embroidery :)

I am knitting a cabled scarf, I just finished an embroidery sampler and I might make myself a chicken wire memo board :D

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food?

From scratch all the way! :D

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds?

I wish we could but our HOA doesn't allow us to :( I would grow veggies, herbs, etc. I would start my own seeds.

    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could?

I live in the city but I would MUCH rather live on a farm...hopefully someday :)

  3. 1. Would you rather be knitting, crocheting, hand stitching doing embroidery, sewing using your sewing machine or all of the above?I love embroidery, quilt piecing on the machine, and wool rug hooking. I do love knitted and crocheted thing, just not good at it.

    2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now? I am sashing a quilt and getting ready to start a new hooked rug.

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food? I like to cook from scratch mostly healthy grains and beans, veggies and fruits.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds? I do plan to have an herb garden, I planted a few thing last year that will come back this year, but I am seriously considering a container garden, waiting for Mathew Meads new magazine on that subject.

    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could? I prefer a farm but am really a little old for all the work involved. I live around Truman Lake so it is kinda rural not big city at all.

  4. 1. Crochet! I'm a beginner and I really enjoy it over knitting.

    2. I'm practicing my crochet skills by making a dish cloth with organic cotton...so soft!

    3. I try my best to do everything from scratch. We're making almost all of our own breads or bread products now!

    4. Yes we have a garden and we've had some success with starting from seed but other items (namely tomatoes) haven't done so well.

    5. I live in the country, two and a half years now and am grateful and thankful for each day here!

    Blessings ~Andrea~

  5. 1. Would you rather be knitting, sewing, using your sewing machine?
Sewing is not one of my talents. I really tried to learn sewing in my younger years, but not good at that. I really admire you ladies who do such beautiful sewing though.

2.Do you have any sewing thing that you are working on right now?
    not anything

3.Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food?
Love cooking from scratch. I love making "comfort food" for my family and friends and love baking also. I collect recipes and love trying out new recipes.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer and what will you grow? Will you start your own seeds?

I will have a garden. Our yard is little where we live now so no longer have a big garden. I love gardening though. I'll grow tomatoes and cucumbers and also flowers. I grown the cucumbers from seeds. I have potted plants and also a flower garden with daylilies and roses. Love the new knock out roses. They bloom for a long time, even in winter here where we live. Usually I grow ferns in pots.
I have started my own seeds of sunflowers and morning glories. Love the beauty of morning glories growing on a fence or trellis.

    5. Do you live on city or on farm? Which would you rather if you could?
I live in a town of about 27,000. I love the closeness of the neighbors and convenience of being near town but I love the country so much. Would like to be farther out of town.

  6. How fun! I love making new friends.

    1. I really enjoy cross stitch or primitive stitcheries?

    2. I always have a list of crafty things to do. My next project will be a wreath for Valentine's Day. Hopefully I will get it done before Valentine's Day.

    3. I love to cook from scratch but as a full-time working mom time doesn't always permit it.

    4. In the past we have had a small garden but last August we bought a camper so I'm hoping to spend the summer months traveling.

    5. We live in what used to be called the country. Several farmers on our road have sold their land in 2 1/2 acre parcels so now we have lots of neighbors. I guess you would call my neighbor rural suburbs.

  7. Whata great idea!
    1. I currently only know embroidery from those listed (sewing I know very little), but would love to learn to knit. I just have to find someone who can teach a leftie!
    2. I am working on Valentine's cards and a couple of mini scrapbooks.
    3. Cooking from scratch, definitely!!
    4. I will have a garden, and will be increasing it's size by 1 large raised bed. Let's see...tomatoes, all types of squash, all types of potatoes, onions, eggplant, peppers, melons, asparagus, radish, all types of lettuce and greens, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, peas, beans....and the list goes on.
    5. I am right outside the city in the start of the country. We have a goal within the next 5-7 years to purchase property a little further out and sell this one.
    Have a great day!

  10. Hi Linda,
    1. I love hand stitching and sitting at my sewing machine
    2. I'm currently working on some swap pressies.
    3. I prefer to cook from scratch, it always tastes so much better.
    4. We're at the tail end of our summer vegie crops in Australia, still lots of tomatoes and cabbages to go. Our lovely elderly neighbours always give us some raised seedlings and we all share the produce.
    5. I'm a city girl with a yearning for a country life. We don't have to escape far to be in the country though and we always go camping and fossicking for rocks and minerals when we can. I love stargazing and spotting satellites as they pass by, you can't see them under the city lights.

  11. 1. Would you rather be knitting, sewing, using your sewing machine?

I like to do simple knitting and want to learn my sewing machine better. I do woodworking and painting to. Oh heck I love dabbling in any craft.

2.Do you have any sewing thing that you are working on right now?

    A sock doll.

3.Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food?

I love making from scratch in bulk to freeze for heat'em up quick meals.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer and what will you grow? Will you start your own seeds?

Yes a small garden. I tried container gardening last year and was a nightmare.
I plan on planting leaf lettuce, sweet taders, herbs, carrots, cherry tomatoes and med tomatoes, onions, acorn squash, birdhouse gourds and I know more.

    5. Do you live on city or on farm? Which would you rather if you could?

I live jist outside of town (pop 3,100) 1 mile. We have 2+ acres and it's enough at our age. Last home was 10 acres.

  12. 1. I have a knifty knitter and a sewing machine. I can't say either get much use. I'm not a whole lot of a sewer of any kind.

    2. Crafty things I do - make soap, make cheese, I'm going to make a headboard this weekend, canning, jewelry. Simple things, but enough to keep me busy and having fun.

    3. I like to cook from scratch. I'm not great at it. This is a developing skill.

    4. I will have a garden. I will start primarily from seeds. I'm going to have tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, radish, carrots, kohlrabi - just basic veggies this year. It's my first real true full fledged garden.

    5. I live in a smallish town - but I would LOVE to live in the country. Not a full fledged farm, but like a small acreage - maybe 5 - 10 acres with a goat or two, a few chickens, some dogs, I think about a cow, but I think that will have to wait quite awhile.

  13. 1. Although I enjoy most of those crafts, my most favorite is embroidery, and smocking, which is just embroidery worked over pleats.

    2. I just finished making a pair of slipcovers for wingback chairs. Next, I will be making a liner for a really large metal basket thing that I hope to use for a toybox (the kids shouldn't be able to break it, at least I hope!).

    3. I like to cook from scratch. And I hardly ever like to use a recipe. And I like to be creative with leftovers. It sounds like it is a wonder anyone eats my cooking!

    4. We will be moving soon, probably early summer, so no garden this year. =-(

    5. We live on at the end of a dead-end street, the last street of our little town. We have a big barn across the street, a little homegrown airstrip, fields with cows and a mountain beside us, corn fields behind us and a neighbor to one side. So I feel like we are getting the best of both worlds, in a town but it feels like country. I used to only want to live in the country, but I can handle city living as long as I have trees! I need my green!

  25. 1. I love to embroidery primitive things and tea stain the fabric and frame it.

2.No, I am not working on anything right now because I have transformed my kitchen into a primitive place ... it even has a buttery..and I am so excited about it, I can't calm down enough to work on anything.

3.I have so many cookbooks that I love love love to look through. My last fab meal was an organic Thanksgiving Dinner including the bird. It was so deliecious! I am doing it again next year due to popular demand by my family. There is a store close by called Buttonwood in New Concord, OH. Michelle ordered everything on my menu..salads, coffee, bread, butter, turkey, green beans, and potatoes. It was God's Feast for sure!

    4. My raised beds will be ready by Spring. In the meantime I have orderd by seeds from Botanical Interests and cannot wait until they arrive. I am doing an all pink flower bed for my granddaughter Oliva and an all blue flower bed for my grandson Grant. Plus a bed filled with flowers called "Grandmother's Cut Flower Garden". My Garden Club and Master Gardener friends are all excited about Spring! I will also have a lettuce bed and an herb garden. Cannot wait!!! Heart is pounding!!!

    5. I live in a beautiful small town called Cambridge, OHIO. I love it here. The countryside is gorgeous and it feels more like a village..we have community gardens and we all get together to help one another. I love both...the city and the country....both wonderful gifts from our Creator.

  26. What a wonderful idea! Here are my answers:

    1. Would you rather be knitting, crocheting, hand stitching doing embroidery, sewing using your sewing machine or all of the above?

I don't knit, but I do enjoy all of the other crafts listed above. Lately I have been renewing my old acquaintance with and love for embroidery, so I guess I would have to say that's what I'd rather be doing right now. I adore counted cross stitch, but as I get older (especially working with 18 count Aida) I find that I need just the right sort of light to work on that.

    2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now? Always.

Right now I have a girl's flannel skirt waiting to be hemmed (waiting on the granddaughter to try it on this weekend!) and am also working on crocheted chocolate donuts (supposed to be pincushions but my grandkids love them as play food) and felt sunny-side-up eggs (for grandkids' birthdays in March and April. They love felt food and I am sort of hooked on making it). Also have a finished Country Baking sampler (cross stitch) that I am wanting to frame in fabric in the next few days.

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food?

Definitely from scratch, although I will use prepared food on occasion. Idahoan instant mashed potatoes and Uncle Ben's Ready Rice are two items I use fairly often. Gotta love brown rice that is ready in 90 seconds! But by and large, I cook nearly everything from scratch.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds?

We will definitely have a garden. We don't have a large area for one (plenty of land, but it is wooded. Ledgy too) so our garden won't be huge. We are not likely to start our own seeds. I tried it with tomatoes last year, hoping to avoid the blight, but the plants, although they started off quite well, didn't survive. Lord willing, we will be planting tomatoes, zucchini, winter squash, lettuce, carrots, and green beans.

    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could?

We don't live on a farm, but we do live out in the country. In the woods, basically, although we are close to town. I love it here and wouldn't want to live in a city.

  27. I'm going to quickly answer these and then go back and read everyone else's comments.
    This is fun.

    1. Would you rather be knitting, crocheting, hand stitching doing embroidery, sewing using your sewing machine or all of the above? I like all sorts of crafting. I especially like sewing, but like to find new stuff. I like counted cross stitch, regular embroidery, paper crafting etc,

    2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now? I have several counted cross stitch projects going. I rotate in doing those. I picked out a clothespin bag I like this morning and want to work on that this weekend or sometime soon in preparation for spring.

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food?
All our cooking is from scratch. We have a rather specialized diet with no sugar or white flour or preservatives/chemicals, so yes we all our cooking from scratch.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds? The seed order was sent yesterday, compost pile is growing, and hearts are longing for the warm earth.

    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could? We have a small farm of 2.2 acres. We raise Rhode Island Reds and Muscovy. We sell eggs and hope to sell some vegetables this summer too. It's our third year here... third winter living in a camper.

  28. 1. I like to use my sewing machine the best, but would love to learn how to crochet (one of my hopes for this year).

    2. This morning I just finished making Easter dresses for my daughter and niece who are both 6 years old - purple gingham & violets fabrics.

    3. I prefer cooking from scratch and am doing more of it all the time.

    4. I am planning to garden again - lots of veggies (tomatoes, peppers, squash, snap peas, beans, etc) and zinnias, echinachea, herbs, and a few new flowers.

    5. I live in Denver, but we have a decent sized yard w/several small garden spots. I think I'd love to live in the country to have more space, but I sure love the weather and view from my backyard now - those Rocky Mountains are gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  29. 1. I would love to be sewing on my machine-quilting - or cross-stitching a sammpler on linen!
    2. I wish...but I am a caregiver right now to my mom who is 85 with failing health and I am disabled myself! But someday I will break loose again and get back to my UFO's!
    3. Love to cook from scratch!
    4. I will not have a garden as I cannot physically care for one - I will try to have some potted herbs and flowers on my deck to cheer me up!
    5. I live in a suburb, but living on a small farm would be wonderful! I love both the city and country - I am adaptable and LOVE all good things about both places! :)
Love your blog - helps me thro each day! I have not figured out how to post a comment with my name - I will try, but I am Karen from Iowa!

  30. 1) I'm a quilter mostly although I like to do a little of everything; knit, crochet, cross stitch, needle point....everything with some kind of needle!

    2) Just finished a nursing cover and diaper pouch for a baby shower this weekend. Was also working on lotto blocks - string pieced hearts - I love string quilts for some reason...the frugality of it maybe? :)

3)Mostly from scratch and when the six kids were here it was ALL from scratch...they didn't get hot dogs till they were teens and store bought cookies only when we visited somewhere! They use to complain about how come they didn't get regular food like tacos and pizza like their friends....LOL
Now that they are out of the house, hubby and I cheat a bit :) it's easier!

4)We usually always have a garden but it keeps shrinking. I use to keep all the kids supplied with canned/fresh produce while they were just starting out..now the three married kids have their own gardens, so there is much less for me to do. I think that even when I'm old and decrepit, I will always plant swiss chard...in a flower pot if I have to...I so enjoy those greens (well the butter s/p are a plus too). And I will try to keep a tomato plant too...but blight is so bad up here...actually last year was the first year in several that we got tomatoes. I'd also like to branch out into herbs a bit...a bit of rosemary and basil; maybe summer savory...

    5) we live on my hubby's family farm. Our kids are the 8th generation on it. Hubs has beef animals; corn for a stand; pumpkins too. But this isn't our lively hood...not enough population to make a living and we are too old to start a new organic venture...but if we were just starting out, I think that would be the way to go to make a living off the land. I love it here!

  31. 1. I am learning how to crochet, have made a few dish cloths, hair bows, and now I'm trying a scarf. Hoping I can make an afghan for my parents. I also like to sew with my machine. I like to make clothes for my twins - mostly my daughter; my son isn't impressed (!) but I am teaching them (10 yo) how to use the machine. I want to learn how to embroider.

    2. I have a little sewing business - mostly for our karate and sword schools. I hem jackets and pants and sew on patches. And that is what I am currently working on. When I finish, I am going to make 2 new skirts for my daughter. I always have a list of things to make for our home and gifts - fun!

    3. I cook mostly from scratch. I keep a few convenience foods in the pantry in case I have a migraine. The twins aren't proficient at cooking yet - my husband is proficient at the drive-thru!

    4. I've had a large garden for the past 5 years, but we have to move sometime this summer. I'm considering doing my veggies and herbs in pots so that I can take them with me, but I've never had much luck with container gardening. I have a water bath canner and I'm in the market for a pressure canner so that I don't have to rely on my freezer for preserving food.

    5. We live on 6.5 acres in the country, but it's not a farm. Don't know where the Lord will lead us this summer, but we know His plan is perfect.

Thank you for inviting me to this get to know each other party!!!

  32. 1. I like hand stitching especially cross-stitch. My 10 year old daughter has tried to teach me how to crochet, but I don't have time to pursue it right now. She and I are learning how to sew better on my sewing machine.

    2. Right now I'm making a curtain for a closet using my sewing machine. I have several cross-stitch projects started, but haven't worked on them much.

    3. I like to cook mostly from scratch. I do use some prepared foods at times like cake mixes, canned spaghetti sauce and others. I'm learning more and more about fixing healthy meals and snacks. I also have increased the amount of snacks/desserts I make from scratch, because then I know what we're eating. My daughter is learning so much.

    4. Yes, we have a big garden. We grow tomatoes, squash, sweet corn, spinach, green beans, peas, and much more. We don't start plants from seed like tomatoes, but we hope to do more of that. I personally don't work alot in the garden. Grandpa still runs the show in that area, and our kids and my dear husband till, plant, weed, etc. It is wonderful to have three generations working together eventhough it can be a challenge at times. I would like to start growing more heirloom varieties and save seeds for future use.

    5. We live on a 105 acre farm with my husband's parents right up the lane. We love it, but neighborhoods have grown up around us. Many farmers have moved out of the area. We have thought about moving too. We want to be in God's will, so we'll see where He leads us.

Thanks for allowing us all to share.

    Michelle

  33. 1. I love it all! Crafting is in my DNA!

    2. Yes, embroidering Valentine tea towels for my daughter-in-loves for the Valentine tea party we will be having on the 12th. I am also making some to send to my mom & sisters.

    3. Scratch most of the time.

    4. Just flowers, not enough room for anything else.

    5. We live in Southern California close to the beach, in a city. Although the country life sounds awesome, it would be hard to leave all our relatives as most live here. Plus our weather is close to perfection. We can drive two hours to the mountains and be in snow.

Thank you Linda for asking these questions. I have really been enjoying your blog and send God's Blessings to you!

  34. Oh my goodness Linda! You really know how to throw a party :) Thanks for the invite!!!

    1. Would you rather be knitting, crocheting, hand stitching doing embroidery, sewing using your sewing machine or all of the above?

I dabble in knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch. Would like to do some embroidery--that cute little snowman wall hanging pattern you gave us. I also enjoy paper crafting-cards, scrapbooking, etc.

    2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now?

nothing currently and I think that may be part of my grumpiness as of late :0

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food?

I really strive to serve healthy balanced meals and it winds up being both from scratch (60%) and prepared (40%) food. I am avoiding high fructose corn syrup and salt as much as possible.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds?

I really like to garden and have done so for years. I now have a yard that gets very little sun so I didn't plant one last summer and this upcoming summer remains to be seen. I usually cheat and plant anything with a long growing season from seedlings and the rest from seeds. I have grown tomatoes-romas (plum), cherry and slicers; bell peppers, banana peppers, onions, potatoes, carrots, snap peas, cucumbers, corn, lettuce, spinach, squash-both summer and zucchini.

    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could?

I am a country (not farm) mouse trapped in the city !!

Blessings on you and yours Linda,
    Connie

  40. Posted the questions and answered them on my blog too.
    http://beforethedawn.org/wpblog/?p=2347

    1. I don’t knit. I’m not good at crochet. I love to do embroidery (stitchery). I like to sew with or without the sewing machine. Right now I’d like to be cross stitching.

    2. Working on a cross stitch kit with a garden theme.

    3. Hubby and I prefer from scratch, but do both really. I bake, hubby cooks, so if hubby is late and the kids need dinner they will get prepared food from me. I don’t know how to cook. I’m just the baker.

    4. We are thinking about what we will grow this summer. We have elk and deer that will mow everything down within reach so we are limited on WHERE we can plant. We don’t have the funds to buy the proper supplies for a tall fence for a garden to keep them out. We also have some “thing” that makes dirt tunnels in the yard. You can see where the dirt tunnels are because the loose dirt is on top of the ground. I’m not sure how to describe it and I haven’t gotten a picture of it yet. If anybody might know what animal it could be, let me know! So with those “things” we’d also have to make raised beds with wire bottoms. We have a large deck that we will probably do container gardening on. We are thinking of cucumbers, pumpkins and flowers. Not sure what else yet! My 6yr old loves to garden so she will get to help out.

    5. I want to live on a farm! We live in the Rocky Mountains so we aren’t in the city, but it’s not a farm-y area either. It’s an area that has ranches and neighborhoods. We are in a neighborhood so we cannot have chickens and goats and other non “household pet” critters.

  41. 1. Would you rather be knitting, crocheting, hand stitching doing embroidery, sewing using your sewing machine or all of the above? I have a nifty little 1952 Singer Featherweight, and I'm very happy when I am listening to it hummmm! Although I love to crochet and embroider as well.

    2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now?
I am making black wool purses with the New Orleans Saints Fleur de Lis on it!! I will be teaching a class in a few weeks, and I want to be prepared!! So I'm making "samples" to show the gals, sort of a "as you go" type thing!

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food? My dear hubby does the majority of the cooking! When I cook though, I do love to cook from scratch!

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds? No garden. We've tried it in Florida and the bugs and animals are terrible here!

    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could? We live in a town, but I would LOVE to own an ancient, fully restored antique farmhouse with lots of modern amenities!!

I'm going to post this on my blog too to see if anyone is watching!!! Thanks!

    In everything, give thanks,
    GrandmaSoucie

  43. 1. I think I would rather be sewing on my machine.
    2. I'm actually working on a few baby things right now. I have two grandbabies on the way in the next few weeks.
    3. I prefer to cook from scratch. Last summer I put a few meals in the freezer to take care of those nights that I just couldn't get a meal pulled together. So, last night I pulled out a pan of squash dressing. It was so good and reminded me of last summer.
    4. We garden every year. We use both plants that we buy from a local nursery and start some seeds ourselves. This year we are putting in more herbs but will also plant beans, peas, corn, tomatoes, peppers...well just about anything else that will grow! Four of our five daughters come each summer to help can and also to fill their pantries. Our 5th daughter lives 1000 miles away and can't make the trip during the summer.
    5. We live on a farm and I can't imagine living anywhere else. I love the garden, animals, the wildlife. My DIL was telling me that my son told her that he loves cow's breath. I laughed but said I did too, she needed to spend a little time with the cows and she too would appreciate their sweet smelling breath!

Thank you Linda, for inviting us to the party. I love meeting everyone.

  48. OH, I LOVE Hobby Farm Home magazine. I still subscribe to that magazine...It's really neat ;) :) :) Okay, I'm a bit late to this, but I was sick the last few days. So I'll answer the questions now :) :)

    1) I would love to do any kind of needlework..since I enjoy it all. At the moment, I'm doing a LOT of knitting. However, I would love to take a proper quilting class and make a quilt like I see in the quilt magazines :) )

    2) I'm knitting some little purses out of remnant yarn from past sock projects. I'm not sure what exactly they'll be used for..but I'm having fun experimenting and seeing where it will go :) :) I do also have a flannel quilt "Grandmother's Flower Garden style" that I need to work on soon. It's been way too long ) :) Plus, it's cold...so I need something warm and comfy to keep me happy :) :)

    3) Oh, it's a mix...cooking from scratch and prepared food. I prefer home stuff over kitchen..but as I"m learning more, I'm liking cooking from scratch. It takes longer, but my dad and I talk more because we're both hungry by the time it's ready. So we talk to pass the time :)

    4) I've never had a garden. I would LOVE to start a huge garden, but realize it's better to start with one thing. I live in an apartment, so whateer I do will be in containers. Maybe I'll try a rhubarb start?
I don't want to go with traditional tomatoes. Maybe rhubarb and zucchini?

    5) I liv ein the city..however here in Southern Oregon it's also rural too, especially on the edges of town. I'd prefer to live in the country. I'm at that p oint in life where I want some land to try growing my own food...I'd also like to have a bit more privacy, too!!!

This was fun :) :) :) Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  49. 1. I like a variety, but can just verily crochet & do not know how to knit, but want to learn really bad.
    2. A Flannel Raggy Baby Quilt for a young woman my DD's work with. Her mother & bro. were murdered by her Father, then he committed suicide. Youngest DD ask me if I would make it for her because she doesn't have a MOm to do special things like that for her, how could I refuse that. I had just made one for DD a few months ago for her new baby.
    3. Mostly scratch, but sometimes use cake mixes & other things in recipes
    4. DH is the gardener, I am the canner. LOL
He plants tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, lettuce, onion, zucchini, radish,& peppers. Sometimes corn and melons.
    5. We live 8 mi out of town(pop.13,000) on 10 acres. We use to have chickens, but don't right now.

  50. Linda, this is such a fun thing to do with your blog.

    1. I would rather be sewing (quilting). I use a machine, but I have been known to hand piece blocks as well.

    2. Crafty things I am working on now include some quilt tops I am piecing (including my Farmer's Wife quilt) and cross stitching some initials on linen to sew up for sachets. Picture will be posted on my blog when I get these done.

    3. I cook from scratch although I do plan to make Kung Pao chicken for supper since my husband will be out riding the snowmobile.

    4. I don't have a vegetable garden, but I do plan to plan a lot of perennials after seeing a new friend's gardens last fall. Amazing work, and I hope to be able to do as well.

    5. I live in a rural area. It's a little village that used to be a bustling stage coach stop. Through the years the stores were torn down or converted into homes. We have close neighbors and a couple of churches on either side of us.

    Thanks again, Linda!

  51. Hi Linda,
I put the questions up on my blog too. www.howtohomemaker.com
I was born and raised in Kansas and I'm lovin' your blog here. Here are my answers...
    1. Would you rather be knitting, crocheting, hand stitching doing embroidery, sewing using your sewing machine or all of the above? Actually my favorite is paper crafting, but I do like sewing and crochet. I don't know how to knit and I used to embroidery a long time ago. Speaking of sewing, I'm looking to get a new machine. I want one to sew and stitch monograms. Any recommendations?

    2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now? I am crocheting an afghan and I am doing some paper craft Easter projects.

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food? Scratch when I have the time but I have no problem with using a boxed mix just so I can get food on the table.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer......what will you grow and will you start your own seeds? Absolutely!! We'll have tomatoes zucchini, eggplant and peppers from purchased plants as well as basil and stevia from purchased plants and I'll grow beans and peas from seed. I want to try my hand at lettuce this year. We also have grape vines and fruit trees, cherry, peach and plum.
    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could? I'd like to live on about 3 acres in the city would be my ideal.

  52. Hello Linda,

    This is so much fun!

    1. Would you rather be knitting, crocheting, hand stitching doing embroidery, sewing using your sewing machine or all of the above? I like to sew, hand embroider, machine embroider, knit, and cross-stitch. Really, I like just about all crafts!

    2. Do you have any kind of crafty or sewing thing that you are working on now? I currently have several unfinshed projects! But am just about finished with a cross-stitch/embroidery picture of some chickens.

    3. Do you like to cook from scratch or do you use prepared food? I prefer to cook from scratch since I think it's much healthier and tastier, but since I work full-time I do rely on prepared food occasionally.

    4. Will you have a garden this next summer? You bet we will! Will probably make it a bit bigger than previous years. I'm planning on starting some things from seed here in the house pretty soon. Will plant tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, onions, carrots, lettuce, and since I live in Idaho - potatoes of course!

    5. Do you live in the city or on a farm which would you rather if you could? We live on 3 acres outside a very small town. It's not really a farm, but I'm lucky to have some chickens so it seems a little like a farm. My grandparents were farmers, and I think that's in my blood! We moved from the Phoenix area 5 years ago and love living here in the country. Wouldn't go back for anything.

Thanks for this fun, fun party!

    1. Don't sew, I do cross-stitch but haven't lately, although today I saw a pattern that I'd like to do :) A lovely row of snowmen.
    2. Spending most of my spare time this winter reading.
    3. Cook mostly from scratch. Trying to eat healthy and local or home grown food.
    4. Always have a small garden at home, but a big garden at work.
    5. Blessed to live in a rural area! We live beside a beautiful brook with lots of woods.

Love your Blog Linda! You are a Blessing to me and so many others. Enjoy reading about your chickens. It's my dream to someday have my own little flock.

  57. Your answers weren't a big surprise since I have been reading your blog for some time now. Here are my answers:
    1. Sewing is my first love.
    2. Three things since I can't finish one thing without starting something else. The most important is a banner for church. Then I have a dress for my daughter and a quilt that needs backing.
    3. Cooking from scratch 90% of the time.
    4. My soil is too bad to have a really good garden. I plant a few things, onions, lettuce, tomatoes and lots of flowers in sections where we have brought new soil in.
    5. Our place is one acre in a hamlet in the county, 5 minutes from the city. The best of both worlds.

  58. 1. I like to crochet and sew. My dream is to make a quilt someday.
    2. I am not working on anything right now. I am doing alot of reading and planning to get ready for my garden.
3.I like to cook from scratch using organic and local ingredients.
    4. This will be our 3rd year to have a garden. We try to expand it every year. We grow tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, watermelon, peppers and herbs. I would like to add strawberries, blackberries and flowers this year.
    5. We don't live on a farm, but we don't live in the city either. We live in a subdivision 30 minutes from town. I love it. It is so quiet and peaceful. Our lot is about 1/2 acre. We can't see our neighbors because of all the trees. My dream is to live on 10 acres, have a huge garden, raise chickens and sell produce, eggs and crafts for a living instead of leaving my home to go work somewhere else.
