Something Special Happenin'

Hello sweet ladies,

Good morning........the sun is shining, the windows are open, the birds are singing and we might get rain tonight. Sounds like a beautiful day to me!

When I got up this morning I checked my email.......my friend Susan had one waiting for me......so did my sister.......don't you just love it.......email that is......it's like getting a card in your mail box and I love things in my mailbox. There was also an email from another blogger friend Angie, her blog is called, Berry Homespun Primitives. She is a sweetie.  Anyway I went to her blog and she had done a post on Joplin. I don't know about you ladies, but I sit in my home and wonder what can I DO?!?!?! I can pray and that is good, but I would also like to do something to help. Now for a little background. Last week a blogger friend Sherry (she doesn't have a blog) called me. She was all excited........she had an idea. She had heard of a lady that had been in the horrible tornado in Joplin. The lady said, "if only I had my purse". I can only imagine not having your wallet, your needfuls. Anyway that put Sherry into high gear.......she is so precious. She decided to start collecting either New or In Good Condition purses for Joplin. Her first goal was to get 100 purses. She is calling it "Purses With Promises", isn't that the sweetest idea? Her honey had access of getting New Testaments and a Bible Study......they are going  inside each purse. Other friends of hers and her daughter are collecting jewelry.... tissues...........PRECIOUS! Ladies, we can go out in His Name and make a difference right from our HOMES!!!! Got so excited with Sherry, but I couldn't think of anything I could do. With limited money, just like everyone else I thought what can I do. Well this morning......you know how my brain works (high gear and never stops) and as I was reading my email from Susan (the one that sent me the box). This is what she said, "Tomorrow, I am going to make some raspberry-ginger scones :) I'll call you when they are ready and we can sit on my back porch and have them with ICED TEA :D" Now she knows I can't really come, because she livesssssss 6 hours away. But we dream. Anyway when I read ICE TEA and then put JOPLIN together in my brain.......I got. ...........

Use this pic to spread the word.......link back to this post please.

That is just how Jesus works with me........so I called Sherry and told her my idea.........she was sitting at the hair salon  in the "beauty chair"......I don't think it is called that, but I like that thought. My honey called it the "Princess Chair"...........Bahaaaaa (that is for you Susan). Cute name I think! Anyway Sherry loved the idea.

Sooooooo here is my
IDEA:

You can make up one or more of my little tea cozy's found on my side bar. You would fill them with one or two teabags.......write a note with a scripture and encouraging note and put in the inside of each. Send them to me and I will send them on to Sherry and she will put them in the purses.  Fun thing to do for the Joplin ladies?

Now some of you may say.......I don't have fabric.........well I can help you there. You know that now I am "Miss Cleany" and I am going through ALL OF MY FABRICS......and I will share....with you. Tell me how many you want to make and I will send the fabric. Now is that a deal or what? If you ladies are interested and think you have other's that would be interested, you can take my Tea Cozy picture above and get the message out. The pattern is on the side bar for you to download. The cozy can be made in cotton or wool and as fancy as you would like. If some of you have already downloaded it and don't know where it is......contact me and I will resend it to you.

Easy Peasy!!!!!!

To contact me please email me at prairieflowerfarm@gmail.com  Put "Tea for Joplin" in the subject. Please don't feel it as a burden if you can't, we all understand the pressures that families are under now a days.

If you have a purse or purses and you would like to send them to Sherry, contact me on that also. Thank you so much.

I will be putting this on my facebook and maybe some other places. Please let me know if you have any other ideas to help this grow. Just email me. Please put this up on your blog if you would like.......link back to this post. HUGS!

Hugs from my farm and may the Lord bless our efforts,
Linda

  3. How cool is this... I also bookmarked Angie's site as well :) :)

I'm sure I've shared this already, but a lady in my church here in Oregon has 14 fam ily members in Joplin. Two of their homes were completely decimated..one home is still standing. The last time I talked to my friend she said the home is still standing, but the windows were blown out. Not sure how thing are now...but they're all alive and that's a blessing for sure :) :) In any case, some of the women in her family are knitters. So I' ll be gathering some extra knitting supplies - double-pointed and circular needles, some cotton yarn etc. Supplies aren't necessarily expensive..but when you just lost everything, it probaby is...and I'm thinking small things like that, or tea bags and an encouraging Word mean the WORLD to people :) :) it would to me if I was in that si tuation.. :) :) This is an awesome post. thank you Linda, for sharing this idea. I did post the link on my Facebook page...and I will blog about this in my next post ;) :)

Every little bit helps ;) :) :) It rained this morning here in my town in southern Oregon. The sun is out now...but it's still a little overcast. Who knows wh at kind of weather we'll have for the rest of the day. One thing is for sure, it's muggy outside :) :)

Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :) :) :)

  5. Good afternoon, Linda...

First of all, if it is okay, I think I will just copy and paste what you wrote and post that to my blog. That will keep it simple...and you will be my guest blogger.;)

Secondly, you know I am so sewingly challenged, so how about I send you two or three boxes of teas to put in the cozies? Would that work?

Also, while you are working on this project, just put my order on the back burner....we'll get it all worked out sooner or later and I don't mind waiting.

Is there anything else I can do?

There should be someone we could contact who would donate pocket size calendars to place in the purses. Even a little note pad and a pen would be handy. I am sure they are having to deal with all kinds of red tape to receive any kind of help....that means phone numbers and such to keep up with.

Let me know if that high gear brain of yours comes up with anything else! LOL

    Hugs,
    Cheryl

  6. Linda,

I love the purse and tea bag cozy idea. That is sweet of Sherry to take on this project :) My 2 daughters and I will look and see what purses we can send to Sherry.

My husband and I have been in our backyard all day working, so I haven't made the scones yet. See.....I didn't forget you Linda :) You probably thought I ate all the scones and didn't save you any :D I will put the recipe here in case anyone wants to try them. It is from the May/June issue of Tea Time Magazine. I will send you the picture if you want to put it up.

    Raspberry-Ginger Scones

4 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
    1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
    4 teaspoons baking powder
    4 teaspoons cornstarch, divided
    1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, very cold, cut into pieces
    1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
    1 cup fresh raspberries
    3 eggs
    3/4 cup lite cream
1/4 cup ReaLemon Bottled lemon juice from concentrate
    1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest

    *Preheat oven to 400 degrees
*Grease a baking sheet. Set aside.
*In the work bowl of a food processor, combine flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and salt, pulsing a few times to mix. Add butter to dry ingredients, pulsing until mixture has the consistency of cornmeal. Transfer mixture to a large bowl.
*Add ginger to mixture, stirring to combine. Set aside.
*In a small bowl, combine raspberries and remaining 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Add raspberries to mixture, stirring gently to combine. Set aside.
*In the container of an electric blender, combine eggs and cream, blending well. Pour over flour mixture, and then cut in with a dull knife. (If mixture seems too dry, add a small amount of cream.) Shape dough into a ball.
*Place dough on a flour-dusted surface, and gently press by hand to a 1-inch thickness.
*Using a 3 1/2-inch-diameter fluted round metal cutter that has been dusted in flour, cut 8 scones from dough, reusing scraps only once. Place 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheet.
*Bake until golden brown, 18 to 20 minutes. Remove to a rack to cool.
*In a small bowl, combine remaining 1 cup sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest, stirring to blend. Spoon sugar mixture over warm scones, and let dry. (The lemon will be absorbed by the scone, and the sugar will remain on top.)

    Hope you enjoy :)

    Hugs,

    Susan Montgomery

  8. Linda, I might have some purses I no longer use, and I have so much leftover fabric, I am going to start on some tea cozies tomorrow..will get some sewed up with some nice teabags inside and get them off to you..what is the deadline?? I have been trying to figure out what to do with bits of fabric I have and your idea came at the right time..I want to help the people so torn apart by tornadoes, but what could I do...maybe just a little thing but the teabag cozies sound perfect as a pick me up.

  9. WOW Linda! God is SO awesome!! I praise Him and thank Him so much for what He is doing through you and your blog followers! It warms my heart.

I still haven't been there to help out... yet. I have many friends and family from OK and MO that have been/are helping and let me tell you something... these purses full of nice surprises will bring so much joy to the women there!!! The people there are so thankful and so grateful for the help, clothes, supplies they are receiving. Everyone that I have talked to that has gone to be a blessing to Joplin has come back home blessed beyond their imagination! There is still so much work to be done. They are talking years worth of cleaning and restoring. Did you get that?? yearS! So very, very sad. So many are without a home, a job, a car. I'm sure the "Purses With Promises" can last well into next year.

Thank you for being obedient to our Father, for the desire to help, and finding a way for everyone to help out without even spending a dime, that is awesome!! You are precious dear Linda!

  10. Linda, I sent you a personal e mail too but I was feeling neglected because my daughter Noelle and I were having a bit of a row! She was suppose to have her friend Natalie make a special birthday cake for Rebekahs birthday yesterday. I thought she was neglecting me but she called and told me her friend was in Missouri (her home state) with her mom and they were helping people in Joplin. I really felt guilty. I will get my items to you very soon. Blessings Anne
