It is raining outside here so that means I am in the house. I have wanted to get up the little gift idea I had for you last Friday, but you who follow know we had computer problems and lots of little babies hatching. Soooooo I thought for fun we would have a little party giveaway! Starting today and ending on, Monday May 24th! I can't send the jam overseas, but I can send the little scone bag and mix. Sorry!
I have a little tutorial so you can make The Coffeehouse Scones (recipe at the bottom of blog) for yourself. You can print out the recipe and make a tag. It is fun to always take a little gift, if you have been invited somewhere.
Sift dry ingredients using a sifter.
Sift onto waxed paper.
Put dry ingredients into a cellophane bag and tie with twine. This will slip perfectly into your little bag. If you give this as a gift, you will need to tell them that they will have to add 1/2 cup butter, 2/3 cup buttermilk. The recipe is at the bottom of post.
Cut a piece of fabric 15" wide x 11" tall.
Make a double seam at the top of fabric and sew across the full 15".
Fold fabric from side to side. Sew sides and bottom.
Box the corners of both sides of bag. Draw a 1" line from point. Sew across corners.
Using pinking shears cut off excess. Turn the bag inside out. Place mixture inside and tie with a ribbon.
Cut a 7 1/2" circle of coordinating fabric for the cap of the jam, pink the edges. Place over
jam and tie in place with a ribbon.
If you want to make a tag go to click here:
scroll down on post to find recipe

Blessings,
Well, if you can believe it, I have never made scones. I see them online everywhere; people enjoying them with jam and coffee. Just never put it too high up on the to do list. Now this mix will introduce me to the deliciousness of scones. That jam sounds so yummy! Do you have rhubarb out in Kansas? I do have a mini clump here; it doesn't seem to grow any bigger...any tips? Should I fertilize it? Anyway, enter me!

ReplyDeleteYes, put horse manure around it. It makes it thrive! It likes lots of water also.
ReplyDeleteI will put up the recipe again for the Strawberry Rhubarb Jam. I had it a up last week. It is so nummy! One of my favorites now. I really love SandHill Plum. Yesterday, Mr. Farmer and myself went up our Kansas Mountain and looked to see if we had any wild sandhill plums. Hundreds of them!!!! It is the best also!
You will love the scone recipe. Reallly easy!! and very nummy!
Thank you for entering!!!

I haven't ever had scones either! My mom and uncle have a real fondness for strawberry-rhubarb jam or pie or anything with the two together! Thank you for the gift bag idea as well! We are planning to make some homemade salsa as soon as the tomatoes are ready so I might have to make bags like these with cornbread mix and salsa! Wouldn't that be fun!

ReplyDeleteGood Morning Linda,
ReplyDeleteI feel as if we are neighbors just down the lane. The first thing I noticed on your post was your sifter! I collect old sifters! Don't have alot but I love them. I think they remind me of helping my mom and grandma in the kitchen. I LOVE sandhill plum jelly. I have to buy mine at the farmers market in Hutch but it is sooo worth it.
Have a wonderful day. God is so good.
Lynn in Hutch.

ReplyDeleteOh I almost missed this party!!! Please put my name in the hat....!! I love the idea of gifting the scones recipe and and homemade jam. I know of a lot of people that would just be tickled to get such a gift. So many, these days, just don't have the time, with working and family and all.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been online much lately either. We've been busy rebuilding an old shed for our new chickens. LOL!! You know how it goes when you start a project, and it grows and grows and you spend days on what you thought might be a day or two project. Well, I'm sure our hens will appreciate it when it is done and produce us lots of eggs.
I just love your blog, Linda...feels like home!
hugs, Sue K

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI follow you and receive your emails. I'm really glad you send the emails, because my internet connection is soooo slooow- but the emails always come through more quickly.
I've been meaning to tell you how much I enjoy hearing about your chickens (and the little duck). I raised chickens many years ago. We had a Momma Hen who just couldn't give up mothering her chicks. When they were almost as big as she was, she would try to gather them under her wings....while sitting on the roost. When I sing, "Under His Wings, I am safely abiding...." I think of that hen.
Thanks for sharing!
- Cathy
