Look at Miss Clarice's precious hands.
Hello sweet ladies!
Went to go see my Momma this weekend. As most of you know she lives in a nursing home not far from me. She was in a real good mood and held my hand so tight. She is so healthy, other then she has either dementia of Alzheimer's. I know she knows us and so you just don't know. She can't talk, but she was giving us kisses and she normally doesn't do that. It was a God moment for me! Before we left we peeked in on Miss Clarice. Click on her name and you can read about her. She is the sweet lady we made the apron pattern that we sell along the side bar for. She was excited to see us. She was in her apron and let me take some pictures of her.
She showed us her pillow that was all crazy pieced. Thought you might like to see it. She made it herself and didn't use a pattern she said! In her locket is a picture of herself, her husband and their son. She won't take it off.
She said, "look in the third drawer down of her dresser and you can see what I have been crocheting". I was looking and she said, "Get the ball of pink crochet thread and in the inside you will find the flowers". Tucked inside the ball of thread, I found the pink little flowers. I love her well worn little hands. They are so soft. She had used a saftey pin to hold them together.I would have never thought of doing that! I will now though. Go here if you want to use her pattern for the little flowers. She show me EVERYTHING with excitement and then asked me what I was up to in the sewing department. So cute! Her hands are hurting more and holding a crochet needle is getting harder for her. We need to ask the Lord to help her, please. She showed me the trim she made to finish up the towel. Like I said her hands are hurting so she was not pleased with the stitching. I loved it, but it was preparing me that maybe one day, I won't be able to do like I like to do now. The edging is in the top picture. Absolutely beautifu! I have bloggy friends that helped me find the endings some time back when I talked about Miss Clarice before. The edging can be found in the book Fifty Beautiful Edgings by Terry Kimbrough
After she showed me the crocheting she wanted me to see this old old old bonnet someone brought in for her to have. I love black, red and white together. She was not pleased with the workmanship and she was going to tear it apart and make it right! Look at the red rick rack along the brim of the bonnet! I would have left it just as is!!!!!!! I couldn't see a thing wrong with it other then it didn't have a ruffle on it like hers. I looked at it and wondered who wore it and what the story was behind it. Hmmmm happy thoughts!
She brought hers out from the side of her chair and she said that hers was the right way to make it! It needed to have a ruffle. She sang me a little ditty and before I could write it down, she forgot what she said! So did I!
Let my teaching fall like rain
and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants.
Deuteronomy 32:2
I love this verse!
This was something that Ellie and I found and thought it was so "cool". It looked like little brown corn on the cob. Isn't the Lord just amazing? We thought it was little eggs. No it is not it is,________. I couldn't not show you. It is so interesting and don't you think it looks just like corn on the cob? We googled it and we read something about silk worms. I don't think we have silk worms in Kansas. May though. If anyone knows anything about this, we would be interested. The grandkids thought it was the best.
Lovely post. Such a unique find with the little brown corn on the cob look-a-likes. Thanks for sharing. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda!
ReplyDeleteOh, Miss Clarice is so sweet! I just love her crazy quilt pillow! And I will have to go check out her 'flowers'. You just never know where they may come in handy to dress a little something up! Isn't she cute in her apron that you made! I'm sure she just loved it ~ and the colors are perfect for the 4th ~ red, white and blue! I love the picture of her in her bonnet! What a precious soul!
Looks like you and your little granddaughter had some rainy day fun! Did any of the little ducks come and join in?
What interesting little ? that you found on your plant. Yes, it does look like corn on the cob. If you find out what they are I do hope you will let us know. (I wonder if you have an County Extension Agent that might know what they are? Or an entimologist at a school/college.)
ttfn ;~D
Miss Clarise so sweet, I was raised by my grandparents so we would go see my mama's mom. My great grandmother (we called her Little Mom). It brought back memories when I saw the bonnets. When our Little Mom would go outside she would put one on. Those bonnets used to be at my grandparents house, they passed about 17 years ago. Makes me wonder what happened to them. Made me remember she was always cooking, I used to just love to watch her. Thanks to Miss Clarise for that memory. Stirred up lots more. It is a good day.

Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a good visit with your Mama. I can't imagine how much her kisses must have meant to you. I'm happy for you that it was such a touching moment. A God moment indeed!
Oh Miss Clarise, I feel like I could sit and talk with her for hours... SOOOOO SWEET to see her in her bonnet~How precious! I like her pillow, I think the fact that her pieces are in no particular pattern makes it that much more special~I would buy if I saw it at a craft show~I could just see plopping that right on Anna's bed! Wow! Her work is beautiful! What a talent!! I know a few stiches, but not many... I could learn more than one thing from her I'm sure! Such a gentle soul.
It looks like you had one of those "SPECIAL" Grandma monents with your grandkids this weekend!!! Smile My Mama says that she smiles all day when she knows the grandkids are coming! Tee~Hee
I love the hair on your watermelons. Isn't God amazing!?!?!? He doesn't forget the tiniest detail! It is so sweet that you take such delight in something like that! I'm sure that made our Lord happy that you noticed. :-)
Please let us know if you find out what the brown corn on the cobs are. To me they look like like little pieces of chocolate candy. Maybe it is???? Wouldn't that be sweet!
Have a wonderful evening.
Carissa
I am loving these stories about Miss Clarice. I wish I could sit and visit with her. I also am so glad you had a wonderful visit with your momma. Life moves so quickly we need to hang on to these precious memories as long as we can! I sure love that crazy quilt pillow. Your blog always makes me smile. I love the photos you use to showcase your Scripture verses. You do such a beautiful job. Heather at Blog-O-Rama used your 4th pic. It looked so sweet on her blog as well. Your grandchildren had a great time with you didn't they? You are such a patient person. I bet they enjoy spending time with you and Mr. Phil too. Those little cobs were cute. You have to find out what was going on with them! I love fresh corn on the cob. I also tried your buttered buns idea. I do not think I can eat a burger with a cold bun ever again! They were so yummy and really added something special to our 4th of July burgers. Yummy! Thank you for all you do for us in blog land to keep us on track with the Lord. I know He loves very much Linda! Blessings to your family today and always Hugs Anne
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day for you and your granddaughter, The bonnets are lovely and the pillow is tops. God Puts special people in our lives for us to gain sunshine from. God bless You and your family.
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet photos of Miss Clarice, she is a cutie. How wonderful you were able to see your mom too. Enjoy your time with her...I miss mine so. I made the blueberry muffins today and you are right they are the best, my husband loved them! Thanks for the tip to butter the burger buns, they tasted so much better. Blessings, Jeannie Schlitt
ReplyDeleteHi Patty, Aren't they the neatest little guys? I think it is maybe from a caterpillar. Still not sure though.
ReplyDeleteLady Farmer, Isn't she the sweetest? I just love her, wish I could spend more time then I do. The crazy quilt is the prettiest. The little flowers make up soooo fast. I have a bunch made. I wish I could have all my blogger friends meet her! Ellie is my little friend even though she is my granddaughter. The big ducks are out running and bathing in the puddles. The two little ones are still little and they are pinned up.
I do think the little ? is from a caterpillar, but not sure yet. Still trying to figure it out. Like your idea. I will try.

Linda...what a sweet post...som any happenings on your farm...and Miss Clarice...well, she's just the sweetest lady...:) :) :) I had to laugh about the ruffle on the bonnet ...that was cute. I'll remember that if I ever make one...it has to have aruffle...Miss Clarice said so. Oh you know what...that edging she was making is beautiful too. I actually have a book of Victorian knitting lace edgings...the book is now out of print. I picked up my copy at a used book store...just out of the blue...It had the word "Victorian"...When I dig it out, I'll come back and post the title for you...Her crocheted edging reminded me so much of the ones in that book!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy you were able to spend time with your mom!!!...Mommy kisses are always the best!!! Well, you are a bright ray of sunshine...shining the love of Jesus on all of us. Thank you :) :) :) Love and hugs, Heather :)
